Island of Giannutri

The island of Giannutri is the southern island of the Tuscan archipelago, located opposite the shores of Monte Argentario. Shaped as a half-moon, it extends over 260 hectares making for 11 kilometers of coastline.

It is a “National Park” protected area characterized by a varied terrain of limestone and rich vegetation and an outstanding biological diversity. In fact, it is often referred to as the “Island of seagulls” due to the presence of a vast colony of “Royal Seagulls”.

Every year Giannutri attracts thousands of diving enthusiasts for the exceptional transparency of its waters and the presence of mercantile shipwrecks which date back to the Etruscan and Roman eras. Archeological studies have discovered utensils and weapons that date back to prehistoric times and have brought to light the ruins of a Roman port at Cala dello Spalmatoio and a beautiful second century Villa near Cala Maestra which boasts a vast terrace directly accessible from the sea, expensive marble and mosaic floors
